Dutch Graphic Designer, Irma Boom

February 16, 2011

Irma Boom (pronounced: bohm) has credentials:  critic at Yale, worldwide lecturer, the youngest-ever to receive the prestigious Gutenberg prize for her complete oeuvre.

Her catalog for textile artist Sheila Hicks was awarded 'The Most Beautiful Book in the World’ at the Leipzig Book Fair in 2007.  (Text by the amazing Arthur Danto) See it here:  http://www.vimeo.com/703587

Boom considers the Sheila Hicks book her manifesto, along with a recent publication she mentions in this interview.   Speaking of manifestos, Boom is a signatory to the First Things First 2000 manifesto, a statement on design as a vehicle for values.  Interesting for you design geeks.

Boom's  books are a feast for the senses and the intellect, full course banquets by a curious and energetic chef.  For some of the visuals, check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk7jVI68Fjw .
