The Case-Flores Ohana Shares Their Mana'o about Mauna Kea
Kalani Flores begins this interview with some possibly mind-blowing ideas about the metaphysical life of Mauna Kea. You will meet Pua Case, who, with her husband, Kalani, was pulled into the controversy around building a thirty meter telescope atop the mountain. Mo'o I Nanea, the water spirit of Lake Waiau near Mauna Kea's summit asked their daughter, Kapulei Flores, to try one more time to stop the new construction. Kapulei is here, telling her story, and there's also a song written by the other member of the Case-Flores ohana, Hawane Rios. The song, "Poliahu I Ke Kapu", won for best Hawaiian language single in this year's Big Island Music Awards. This sound file closes with a moving chant by Pua Case.
