The Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra at a Crossroads
The Hawai'i Symphony's inaugural Masterworks season closed with a flourish this past weekend. Pianist Jon Kimura Parker displayed the skill, generosity, and depth of character that has made him a favorite in the Islands, and the Symphony responded in kind. The Pops season continues with Jimmy Borges then three concerts in the Waikiki Shell, including a July 4th spectacular. While audiences have been enthusiastic, a 2012-13 season has not yet been announced. Here, Symphony Board Chair, Oswald Stender, explains why.
