These pieces celebrate the magic that must be at work in this most curious and mysterious world.   They’re my buoyant evocations of spirit.

Intoxicating Presence

I filled the gallery with lotus for this exhibition; lotus in wax, oil, charcoal. Lotus have a long and venerable history in Eastern art---Buddha himself sits on a thousand petalled lotus.  The huge, beautiful flowers symbolize the spirit’s transcendence, emerging from the muck of mundane existence...and what a marvelous fragrance!

Earth

I am working with 6 other artists to interpret the five Buddhist elements. Earth is the first.  These works started by exploring the close relation of earth to flesh.   I love incense and began working with saps, resins and Hawaiian plant materials to create my own incense celebrating Earth.   The smoke trails from earth incense made their way into the paintings!
